Humans of Mumbai

My journey has been long and pretty eventful. I have been in Taekwondu since 70’s. Since when it came to India basically 1978, that time i started doing Taekwondo.

I am an 8th degree Black belt in Taekwondo.

I have travelled the world with this Martial art .. except for Africa I have been to pretty much everywhere.

And now I am in the US .. infact I got the green card and the US citizenship because of the Taekwondo.

I am there in USA today. I teach Taekwondo today, I teach Taekwondo in Unites States, I go to India, England, Ireland, Dubai, Bahrain. I mean I have been all over.

We have our federation, our own little different system of Taekwondo called IPTF International Progressive Taekwondo Federation, which is different from the traditional sport technology.

We are doing Taekwondo in a traditional manner but also in a innovative progressive manner for real world self defence because when I started learning Martial Arts i never did that to win any competition. I learnt that to defend myself.

And what’s happening now is people are more interested in competitions, they believe and are more interested in fanciful techniques and doing all kinds of fanciful nonsense they watch in movies and demonstrations, forgetting what real fighting and real world martial arts is all about. All that stuff is not going to work in the street in a real life and death situation.

I also developed Khan Do Kwan which is my brand of real world street fighting.

‘Khan’ is of course my last name .. ‘Do’ is the way and ‘Kwan’ is the school where Khans are based from. That is what it stands for.

It’s about practical real world street fighting.

Through Khan Do Kwan I have developed several real world specialised fighting programs such as LECC – Law Enforcement Close Combatives which will teach Police and Miltiary officers to with fight on land .. fight in water .. fight with guns .. fight without guns .. basically to fight any which way they can to win a confrontation.

Then I developed this WARDA, Women Against Rape & Domestic Abuse, way back in 1998 i started it out as ‘Rape Defence’, it was covered by almost all media in India at that time and we were doing it then and I called it Rape Defense that time but after moving to the US I added in the Domestic Abuse angle on to it because there is a lot of domestic abuse that carries on all over the world.

We should be helping women and even empower themselves within their homes.

Hence i added the Domestic Abuse angle to it and i called WARDA – Women Against Rape and Domestic Abuse.

In the 2005 the Mayor of Indianapolis, Bart Peterson he even had an entire month in our name .. he called it the WARDA month, Sept 2005 was a WARDA month in the city of Indianapolis.

And here in India we already trained over 500 women, in last 2 days and will be training more tomorrow as well.

Over the world we have trained over 20 thousand women.

Of course if you the compare the population of the world, 20 thousand are not good numbers. But we are doing that.

We have several instructors over the world now, India has maximum amount of WARDA instructors and now God willing US will start having a lot of WARDA Instructors.

Right now in United States we have 3 certified WARDA instructors and hopefully after this July we would be having 20 more and all of them are Police Officers.

I love this town – Mumbai , love it to death. This where i was born.

Now its getting dirty. I mean every time i come here its get dirtier. What is wrong with people?

Why don’t they have pride in their city?

Why cant they not say “Hey this is my town lets clean it up”.

I have travelled all over the world, each city is clean impeccable, and our city is getting worse.

And who is to be blamed .. every Mumbaikar.

Forget blaming the Government, if every Mumbaikar decides Hey for once I am not going to throw even single piece of paper on the street, we will have such a beautiful city.

I mean what a beautiful town. what a beautiful town and its even getting more beautiful and its even getting more dirty.
